ALR Post 283 was started in June 2006 with 18 Charter Members. The initial officers of the chapter were:
Director Jim Jackson Asst Dir Jon Daniel Secretary Christine Jones Treasurer Joe Frizell Sgt at Arms Ric Dunbar (also served as the Ride Coordinator)
The first 6 months were rather slow with no new members and no rides. The chapter met monthly laying out some long-range goals and plans.
In January 2007, Jim Jackson announced that he would no longer be able to fill the role of Director. At that point in time, Ric Dunbar was elected Director and Marcia Daniel was elected Sgt at Arms.
In June 2007, it was unanimously decided that the current officers serve in the same positions for the 2007/2008 year. The following are the officers by position:
Director Ric Dunbar Asst Dir Jon Daniel Secretary Christine Jones Treasurer Joe Frizell Sgt at Arms Marcia Daniel
Additionally, the position of Run Coordinator was made an Officer position in July of 2007 and Ed Griggs was named as the Run Coordinator for the 2007/2008 year.
The first 7 months of 2007 saw an increase in activity of the chapter. Some of the activities included:
February Group ride to Commerce to see the traveling Vietnam Wall Memorial March Group ride to Robbers Cave, OK Chapter support of the Post 321 (Plano) March of Dimes fundraising run April Group ride that ended with a bike breakdown and recovery May Group ride covering Fannin, Grayson, and Collin counties A visit to Clyde Cosper Retirement Home to show bikes to the residents June Some members attended the rally in Cumberland Cove, OK Chapter fielded 10 bikes in support of the PGR as an escort for the funeral of Perry Hasten Group ride in Fannin County with a lunch stop at Sod Busters for lunch Chapter support of a fundraiser for Jim Leveque’s son’s medical bills July Group ride in Fannin and Lamar counties
At the beginning of the new year in July 2007, several of the original Charter Members had dropped out. However, during the same period of time, the chapter picked up 4 new members and support from both ALR Post 321 Plano and ALR Post 231 Texoma. As of July 1, 2007, the chapter numbered 15 members and 1 supporter. All members were registered members of the Patriot Guard and many had already completed their first mission as such.
In July 2007, the chapter joined the Post in entering the twentieth century when it went on the Worldwide Web with its first web site. All of this was made possible through the expertise and efforts of Ed Griggs who took on the role of Webmaster for the Post’s web site. This was a big event and step for both the Post and chapter.

As proposed and accepted, this is the “official” layout for the back of the ALR Jackets. More patches can be added, but the Legion Patches must be arranged this way. |
