The first Legion Hall for Post #283 in the early 20’s was located on the Northwest corner of 5th & Center streets, on the 3rd floor of what is now Bonham Office Supply. During the 30’s & 40’s the Legion Hall was the 3rd floor of the Fannin County Courthouse. During the 50’s, the Legion met on South Center Street at the Veterans Vocational School building. During the 60’s, the Legion met at the Sam Rayburn Library on West 4th Street. During the late 60's and early 70's the Legion met in the County Judges Courtroom at the Courthouse. On February 2nd, 1982, Post 283 opened a clubroom between 2nd and 3rd Streets on the Westside of Main Street. In 1985, the clubroom was moved to West Sam Rayburn Drive one block from the Sam Rayburn Library. On Thursday, February 4th, 1993, Anderson-Roberts Post #283 moved into their present Home on the Southwest Corner of the intersection of Highway 56 and Highway 121 on the West side of Bonham.

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual-help, war-time veterans organization. A community-service organization which now numbers nearly 3 million members -- men and women -- in nearly 15,000 American Legion Posts worldwide. These Posts are organized into 55 Departments -- one each for the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico, and the Philippines.
